Session Structure

 

Our team of trained practitioners offer a choice of half and full day sessions.

These sessions consist of an hours' performance and a follow up workshop to cement students' understanding of the text, and allow them to study pivotal moments in memorable ways.

 

Each Performance and Academic Workshop will include the assessment criteria leaving students with the confidence and ability to approach the English Literature examination with enthusiasm and inspiration.

 

Following the Revision Sessions the student will have gained the ability to:

 

1. Respond personally to texts using key quotes & references as backup evidence support of their ideas.

2. Analyse language, form and structure.

3. Understand relationships between texts and contexts.

4. Develop a deeper understanding of the story, plot, characters, motives, style, major themes, historical and social context.

5. Respond to Shakespeare plays/texts with a deeper understanding and appreciation of the writer, verse and prose, style, context, historical and social context, characters and themes.

Each performance is approximately one hour long. The performances are high quality, professional and true to the playwright’s intentions, setting and text. Each performance uses traditional costumes, music and props and includes all major characters, scenes and turning points, identifiable with a young modern audience.

Say Two's high quality performances and fun educational interactive practical workshops are concerned with encouraging students to develop effective analysis, tools and techniques, by engaging, inspiring and encouraging students to discuss, analyse and present their own personal views, using back up evidence from the set studied texts.  The accelerated learning is achieved by witnessing, exploring and bringing key sections of the text off the page.

 

Students are encouraged to approach different texts using critical evaluation and discussion. The fun interactive workshops develop a deeper understanding of the themes, events, language, phrases, story, plot and literary devices, enabling students to understand the importance of clear, concise communication skills and presentation of personal responses to different texts. Students analyse the writer’s social, historical context to inform and create an impact along with analysing the use of literary terminology, metaphor, phrase, metre, irony and figures of speech in a fun way.  Students will develop a deeper understanding of how a writer's form, structure and language contributes to the presentation of specific texts.

During the accompanying interactive workshop, students have the opportunity to analyse the text in a fast fun way, bringing the enduring themes, language, characters, story, plot and social, historical and cultural context imaginatively ‘off the page’, using traditional costumes, props, swords, set, music and sound effects.

 

 

EXPLORING POETRY & PROSE PACKAGE

 

POETRY THROUGH TIME & CONTEMPORARY POETRY BROUGHT TO YOU

 

Half or full day sessions available

 

The specialist poetry and prose workshop develops student’s deeper understanding of the tools and techniques, rhythms, rhyming couplets, literary devices used to develop poetry across time.

 

The workshop includes: A Power Point presentation, aims and objectives, fun activities, practical exercises, how to bring the poems off the page, using student’s creative ideas and imagination in a fun educational way.

 

 

Deep analysis of the poems is approached in a fun way, using comparisons, making links, annotation, discussions, games and activities.

 

The practical hands on section of the workshop, aims to bring the poems ‘off the page’ developing a deeper appreciation and understanding of the difference between poetry and prose. The students develop their own creative interpretation of the poems using costumes, music, sound effects and physical theatre.

 

The final section of the workshop consists of writing a short analysis using comparisons and discoveries made during the previous sessions, making use of their writing techniques and new skills.

 

The whole session culminates with the students performing sections of their chosen poems, using presentation skills they have learned during the coaching session of the workshop. This section focuses on:
